Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts; founded in 2003 by Tuğrul Şavkay, the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts at Yeditepe University is the first established Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Program in Turkey. The fundamental aim of our department is to academically explore, preserve, develop, and introduce Turkish culinary culture to the world. Our program offers a wide range of courses, including nutrition, food science, food hygiene, new product development, food and beverage management and marketing, food culture and history, world culinary cultures, food styling and photography, classical and modern culinary techniques, and pastry arts.

In addition to the traditional course program, our department stands as the first and only Gastronomy and Culinary Arts program in Turkey to offer students four different course programs through innovative modular education to respond swiftly to the rapidly changing needs of the industry. Our department holds the distinction of being a leader and the only Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department in various fields.

Our department has agreements with prominent institutions worldwide. It has a collaboration with Universitat Oberta de Catalunya in Spain, represented by the UNESCO/UNITWIN chair "Food Culture and Innovation." Additionally, it has an agreement with Ecole Ducasse - ENSP, a world-renowned pastry school in France. Our department holds the patent for developing a new product in Turkey, specifically the gluten-free tarhana formula and production. It is also the only department in Turkey to have an agreement with Boston University for the Master of Liberal Arts in Gastronomy program. Furthermore, our department offers the only Gastronomy and Culinary Culture Master's program in Turkey.

As a pioneer in social responsibility initiatives, our department is the first and only Turkish partner of the Universities Fighting World Hunger (UFWH) network, an initiative created by the United Nations and Auburn University to raise awareness about hunger on campus. Moreover, we are the first partner in Turkey of the Presidents United to Solve Hunger (PUSH) consortium network, a global movement working towards ensuring food security on university campuses.

Being the official partner of Google Arts and Culture, the world's largest platform for art and culture, our department's platform has an official page representing Turkey. You can explore the page by visiting:
