Course Objectives:

The aim of the course, starting from the late 19th century to the present day, is to examine the developmental stages of modern and contemporary art in Turkey in parallel with cultural policies and developments of the republic. Students will learn various art movements and strategies, in order to understand them on social, political and artistic levels.

Course Content:

As addition to the Fine Arts Faculty’s Art History classes, this seminar focuses on the development of fine art in Turkey from the 19th century until today. Besides theoretical texts and the discussion of important artists, various movements and incidents that influenced the evolution of modern art to contemporary art will be analyzed. Presentations of important artists from Turkey function as case studies.
