An historical overview of colour and its role in design throughout important periods. Extensive knowledge of society and colour from a contemporary perspective will be used for comparison. How important is colour and what are its dynamics? The language of colour and its psychological implications in design on symbolic levels will be considered. Theoretical research and practical projects will contribute to the course. Psychological effects of colour on mood, emotion and behaviour can serve as a powerful tool of knowledge for the fashion designer who will have capacity to use colour for maximum outcomes. Gender issues will be addressed and also how colour contributes to negative outcomes. Cultural differences in colour will be explored to understand the importance of meaning and designing with cultural awareness. Utilising this extensive and interdisciplinary approach to colour will also enhance design from a commerical point of view.
