Course Objectives: 
The Aim of this course is to teach students contemporary cultural theories that form a basic source of knowledge in many areas of social sciences, including studies of culture and art, communication and sociology. And to introduce them theorists, thinkers and researchers who create these theories, as well as, to give an instruction on the social and political structures that constitute the basis for contemporary cultural theories.
Course Content: 

The course includes the investigation of various definitions and forms of culture, the understanding of what a theory is, and the study of outstanding theorists and their teachings in a chronological order. The course is formed of 2 consecutive semesters. The 1st semester also includes the process of development of the social, intellectual and political forces that nurture Western contemporary cultural theories.

Assignments Students are given passages of selected books and academic articles. They are expected to be prepared beforehand by having read the texts and taken notes. They also have to participate and be actively engaged in class discussions and ready to pop-quizzes. Participation and quiz results contribute student’s end-semester evaluation.
