Course Objectives: 
As a graduate of the Art Department, to introduce the artist candidates who will step into the professional field with their artist identity, the creative industries that are shaped within the framework of today's local and global cultural policies and market conditions
Course Content: 

As a young artist candidate, there are many local and international dynamics waiting for artists who want to bring their art practice to the public. The first part of the course will focus on the structures that shape these dynamics with a historical perspective. Today's creative industries and cultural policies will be examined with both Turkish and international examples. In the second part, guest speakers, who will be invited mainly from field professionals, will bring together students and the structures that will act together as a professional artist will be examined.

1 Introduction: A Contemporary Issue: Art Management - An introduction to the system dynamics surrounding the artist today.  
2 Historical Perspective 1: Culture Industry - Looking at art practices as a business, studying the history of the industrialization of the art work with Adorno.  
3 Historical Perspective 2: Art and creativity shaped by the stamp of the Creative Industries in the 21st Century, the example of the United Kingdom - UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) declared 2021 as the Year of Creative Economies for Sustainable Development. In this context, we will look at the creative sectors of Europe as the UK as a focus country.  
4 Current Situation: Contemporary Art - An introduction to the dynamics that shape the society's perception of art and artist today with its contemporary definition in art. What are the dynamics that constitute the art canon in the 21st century, how the relationship between artist and art critic proceeds.

5 Art and its Institutions: Introduction - In the 21st century, in the continuation of corporate criticism that became widespread after 1960, we question the power of the art work and the structures that enable the artist to come together with the audience / audience and art consumer / stakeholder in the 20th century.

Art and Institutions: New Era Art Museums - To discuss the private art museums, which are the most invested and sustainable art spaces in Turkey, in the light of the change that museums have undergone from the 19th century to the present day, through the relationship they have established with the public.
 
7 Art and its Institutions: Galleries - To look at the galleries that are shaped by the art market and shape the art market, within the framework of the relationships they establish with artists, collectors, auctions and fairs.

8 Global Dynamics and Networks in Art: Biennials - The Istanbul Biennial, which has been organized by İKSV since 1987, is among the top priorities among world biennials, working mainly with foreign curators and artists with the support of international funds. We will look at the biennial, which brings discussions together every two years, from the effect of the global on the local and the artist relationship.

9 Artists Taking Initiative: Artist Initiatives and Collectives - The history of artist initiatives and collective structures in Turkey goes back to the 1950s. When we look at the artists who created their own formations and their own institutional structures after 1980, we see that there are artist initiatives and artists who have developed a new language starting from 2000, as well as initiatives established by cultural operators or art managers. This week, after the 2010 period, we will look at the new period formations moving from the center of Istanbul to different cities such as İzmir, Ankara and Diyarbakır.

Artist Support Mechanisms in the New Era: Art Awards, Competitions and New Graduate Artist Exhibitions - Award-winning competitions and exhibitions supporting young artists have increased considerably in Turkey since the 2000s. While these mechanisms impress with the opportunities and possibilities they provide, they are criticized for the unrealistic expectations they create in the artist candidates. We will discuss the effects of these new structures and the possibilities they offer.

13 Digital Transformation and the New Art Economy in the Art Market - The dynamics of the art market, which has reached astronomical figures since 1980, have been under criticism for not being regulated for a long time - non-transparent work pricing and balloon sales, taxes, etc. Recently, progressive digitalization and the crypto economy in this area also offer a new concept to the art market: NFT. We will talk together about how possible art work production, economy and collecting is possible in digital.

14 Creative Sectors and Gender Equality - Are the creative sectors and the arts free from sexism and gender inequality? We will talk about the field of art and the artist identity not only in terms of women's rights, but also on how open and inclusive it is to different identities.
