Course Objectives:
To try to capture new perspectives in the context of possible future suggestions in menswear through establishing the kinds of key developments that took place in the previous century which paved the way to the androgynous, feminine looks in contemporary menswear and homosocial, homoerotic mise en scenes in the male image in fashion photography today.
Course Content:
Firstly; the liberation movements that took place between late 1950s and early 1970s are scrutinized. Afterwards; the time well known luxury ready-made clothing brands penetrated into menswear market; marginal and avantgarde styles in menswear in 70s, 80s, 90s and early 2000s; metrosexuality and how this phenomenon contributed to the cause and feminine, androgynous looks in contemporary menswear and homosocial, homoerotic mise en scenes in 21st century fashion editorials and advertisement campaigns are located. Lastly; skirt as a taboo in menswear is analyzed and the possibility of genderless fashion is examined.
